Artist's Statement
My artwork has been inspired by emotions  or any number of things.  The journey of life inspires me.  People are my favorite subject matter.  Some paintings are for the sheer enjoyment of it & others have more of a personal or emotional significance. I do have many paintings in my head…I just need to get them out.

I love the brightness & transparency of watercolors in addition to all of the effects an artist can achieve. Art is still a journey for me intertwined with my life.  I hope to give pleasure and to provoke thoughts and emotions with my artwork.

Biography
April Galamin (nee Griffiths) was born in Chicago, Illinois into what would become a family of eleven children. She knew by the 3rd grade that she was an artist. As a youngster, drawing was something fun to do and required little money. Her mother always said it was a  ‘sign’ that April was born hand first.

As a child her mother enrolled her in art lessons in Davenport, Iowa. She received art awards in school and was in the Gifted Art Program at Rock Island High School. April studied at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL. Eventually she transferred to Western Illinois University  & was smitten with watercolors.

In May of 1987, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University. The same year April moved to the city of Chicago. While working fulltime in the printing & graphic arts industry, she was always on the lookout for creative work on the side, including Wilbur Wright College & Playboy Enterprises. With technology on the rise she honed her skills at the American Academy of Art in Chicago & completed a Computer Graphics Certificate Program at Robert Morris College, Chicago campus.

She & her family moved to Michigan in 1999. There was scant time for art during the six years of  homeschooling  her children. April now has more time to devote to her art since she no longer homeschools. Observing their mom create artwork in the home, her children are starting to realize that there might be something more to mom than just “mom stuff”.

She was involved in the Lady Liberty project for the ACLU Michigan -Annual Dinner & silent auction, Dearborn, Michigan November, 2006
She exhibited  Liberty has not forgotten”.  This is a link to the page: http://www.magnetcreative.com/aclusite/index.html

She was selected as Sterling Heights Artist of the Month where she Exhibited 20 pieces of artwork at Sterling Heights, MI  City Hall. May- 2006.

Though she has had detours in pursuing her art career, she has a vision for the future.

April Galamin currently resides in Sterling Heights, Michigan with her husband Michael  &  their  two children.

April is a member of the Michigan Watercolor Society & Illinois Watercolor Society.
