Introducing the Annual “Eveyln Ecale Schultz Spirit Award”

The John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation has approved a grant in loving memory of Evelyn Ecale Schultz. Ms. Carole Hughes Hennessey, Director of the Foundation, suggested that an award be given to an artist or artist(s) that captured the spirit of Evelyn in their work. The Hughes Foundation approved a grant in the amount of $1,000.00. These grant funds are to be used in their entirety for two (2) $500.00 cash awards for the 2006 Illinois Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition. Recipients are to be determined by criterion developed by the Illinois Watercolor Society. Furthermore, this award is being made in honor of distinguished Illinois Watercolor Society Signature Member Evelyn Ecale Schultz, who passed away in April of 2006.

Arlene admired Evelyn’s work. She said she always had something special to show. “I was at her house and I was impressed with her large box of ribbons”, said Arlene. She also remarked she was thrilled to have the award.

Lorraine was extremely close to Evelyn and called her “my Mentor”. When Lorraine retired from teaching in the Chicago school system, she decided to take some art classes. She met Evelyn at the Elmhurst Art Guild where she enrolled in her adult art classes. She said, “People like Evelyn don’t come around in life too often”. Evelyn put the artists first and everything was for helping the artist fine tune their craft and being comfortable in expressing their individuality. Of course she is extremely pleased with her award and we feel she did Evelyn proud.
